Karineh Khachatourian

Karineh Khachatourian is a first chair IP litigator and strategist. Ms. Khachatourian previously founded Duane Morris’ Silicon Valley office where she served as Managing Partner and is a past member of the firm’s governing Partners Board. She currently serves as Managing Partner of the firm.

Ms. Khachatourian’s practice focuses on a wide range of technologies including enterprise and consumer products utilizing computer software and hardware, with an emphasis on data security, encryption technology, internet content delivery and load balancing, network communication technologies, consumer electronics and computer peripherals, and video gaming technology. She represents clients in the semiconductor, information technology, social media, video gaming, and enterprise cloud computing spaces. In short, through her experience and vast network, Ms. Khachatourian solves her clients’ IP problems.

Ms. Khachatourian’s domestic and international litigation and counseling experience includes utility and design patent infringement, licensing and other IP contract disputes such as inventorship and ownership issues; trade secret misappropriation, particularly with competitors and departing employees; and trademark infringement disputes, obtaining and defeating preliminary injunctions in the United States and Germany and inter partes review proceedings at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Ms. Khachatourian has had recent success invalidating patents as “abstract” and ineligible for patent protection under the Supreme Court’s landmark decision Alice Corp. v. CLS Bank International, 134 S. Ct. 2347 (2014). Ms. Khachatourian routinely represents clients in domestic and international mediation and arbitration proceedings as well as state and federal courts across the country including California, Utah, Texas, and Delaware. Ms. Khachatourian has also appeared before the Federal Circuit and the Sixth District Court of Appeal in California. Ms. Khachatourian is also a RPX Panel Counsel Member.

Ms. Khachatourian is deeply involved with Silicon Valley networking organizations. She serves on the Executive Committee and Board and is General Counsel for Watermark, a group for executive women; a partner with Leading Women in Technology as well as with Chips, an organization that advances women in IP law; and the co-founder of Salonnieres, a social organization for women professionals. Ms. Khachatourian was recognized as one of Silicon Valley Business Journal’s 2013 Women of Influence, and was selected by The Recorder as one of its 2013 Women Leaders in Tech Law. Ms. Khachatourian received the Duane Morris 2016 Cheryl Bryson Leadership Award in recognition of her significant contributions to women in the profession, including issues of the advancement of women lawyers.
